In agricultural systems, soil health refers to the "continued capacity of a soil to maintain chemical, physical and biological balance, supporting processes and functions that provide a favorable environment for plant growth."
Healthy soils are resistant and resilient to environmental stresses and provide greater production stability over time. However, soil health cannot be measured based on a single parameter, but indirectly assessed through chemical, physical and biological indicators that are dynamic and sensitive to management.
Developed by Dr. Bruna Emanuele Schiebelbein and Prof. Dr. Maurício Roberto Cherubin, the SOHMA Soil Health KIT is a tool for in situ assessment of soil health indicators in a practical and accessible way for farmers and professionals in the agricultural sector, covering chemical, physical and biological assessments with easily acquired materials and a detailed explanatory manual.
